Membrane characterization and drinking water
Yvan Wyart

The activities carried out in this research area focus on the characterization of membranes, more specifically in the field of drinking water production. While the central research theme focuses on understanding the retention of nanoparticles (NP) by industrial hollow fiber membranes used in drinking water production, the entire water production chain is considered.

To carry out these studies, experimental protocols associated with multi-scale characterization methodologies (SEM, TEM, CLSM, AFM, etc.) are being developed. This approach enables the production of drinking water using membranes to be approached from a number of different angles. Membrane ageing, abrasion and clogging are all taken into account. The problem of NP retention by existing processes is also considered. Finally, the development of new membrane integrity tests is being considered.
